MDJ Bokken and Jo are made
from only carefully selected white oak wood. We have chosen manufacturers who
pride themselves in taking their time to produce a traditional , no-nonsense
weapon that is well-balanced, perfectly weighted, and strong. These white oak
woods are cut into large planks that are then dried in the sun for three to six
months.
Next, only those planks that pass the craftsman's scrutinizing eye are cut into
smaller planks which are then dried in the sun for two more months. Afterwards,
the craftsman selects only the best pieces of wood out of the lot and places
them in a special dryer for two weeks. Because moisture greatly inhibits the
integrity of wooden weapons, these pieces are process before the shaping
procedures begins.
In order to provide consistency, a shaping machine is used first to determine
the length, width, and general shape of the Bokken. After that, a twelve-step
sanding process is carries out entirely by hand, then later the weapon is
polished and lacqured. Now you know why these Bokken and Jo are outstanding.
