Grading Syllabus

 

According to the standard set by the International Aikido Federation (IAF) and the United States Aikido Federation (USAF), there are 6 ranks below black belt. These ranks are called "kyu" ranks.  As there is no recognised kyu ranking in Iwama Ryu Aikido, the grading syllabus will consist of 5 Kyu ranks (levels below black belt).  These Kyu ranks are:

 5th Kyu  - White Belt

4th Kyu   - 1st Red belt

3th Kyu  - 2nd Red Belt

2nd Kyu  - 1st Brown Belt

1st Kyu  - 2nd Brown Belt

 Shodan  - Black Belt

GRADING REQUIREMENTS

Buki Wasa (Weapons) Syllabus

Promotion through the kyu ranks will be governed by the following criteria.

1.  Ability to show an appropriate understanding of the techniques identified for this level.

2.  Ability to show an understanding of the principles required to competently perform the  required techniques for each level, at an appropriate standard.

3. Ability to show an appropriate understanding of the required etiquette.

4.      An appropriate level of maturity required for each level.
